The Baroque on Beaver Orchestra takes the stage for an evening of orchestral masterworks including Mendelssohn’s beloved Symphony No. 4 Italian, Bach’s Orchestra Suite No. 3 and Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C Major featuring Young Soloist Competition winner Bhargava Kulkarni. Join us for an inspiring performance showcasing both emerging talent and great masterworks.

Description

About Bhargava Kulkarni (cello), 16, hails from Okemos, Michigan, and attends the Okemos High School. Bhargava started learning the cello as a four-year old in the local Suzuki program with Molly Rebeck. Later he studied with Horacio Contreras and Richard Aaron. For the past six years, he has been studying with Professor Amir Eldan at the University of Michigan. His repertoire includes concertos by Haydn, Elgar, Davidov, Kabalevsky, Saint-Saens, Rococo Variations by Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Dvorak and others, sonatas by Beethoven and Brahms, suites by Bach and Cassado, and many short pieces for cello and piano. Bhargava has also performed chamber music by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Arensky and more.

Bhargava has won several local competitions, the MTNA (Michigan) competition in the junior division (November 2020 and 2021), as well as the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra Young Artist competition (December 2022). He is also selected to perform in the live rounds of the International Young Artist Concerto Competition in Chicago. He has also held leadership chair positions at the All-State High School orchestra and Michigan Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Bhargava has given numerous solo and chamber music performances. Most recent memorable performances were at the Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor with the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra in March 2023, at the Indiana University Summer String Academy in Summer 2023, and at the Morningside Music Bridge in Summer 2024. He has also performed in the studio classes of his teacher as well as in masterclasses at various summer programs.

Besides cello, he is keenly interested in mathematics, reading, chess and running.

About the Beaver Island Performing Arts Alliance

Each summer from the last weekend of July through the first weekend of August, the Baroque on Beaver Festival presents world-class orchestral, chamber, and vocal performances on the most remote inhabited island of the Great Lakes. In 2026, the festival celebrates 25 years of bringing classical music to Beaver Island. Baroque on Beaver is the signature event of the Beaver Island Performing Arts Alliance (BIPAA).

Beyond our signature annual event, the Baroque on Beaver Festival, the BIPAA strives to engage with the BI community broadly and in multiple types of artistic presentations with both summer-season and year-round arts programming. Event Details

Ticketing. You will receive an email confirming your transaction shortly after you make your reservation.  We will then process the transaction after which you will receive an additional two emails one of which will include your tickets to the event. Please allow one business day to process your transaction. (Reservations on the day of the performance will be processed as soon as possible or at the event.)  If you purchase your tickets with a check, we may not process the transaction until we confirm payment. Admission to the Event. For admission to the event, please either (a) save the email with the tickets and bring it with you on a mobile device or (b) print out the ticket document attached to the email and bring it with you.

Safety Requirements. All events at the BIC Center will comply with safety requirements mandated by state and local authorities in effect at the time of the event.  Click here for current details. If necessary events may be moved to an outside location, postponed or canceled. Please understand that our first concern is the safety of our guests, performers and staff.

Special Accommodations.  The BIC Center Theater is equipped with a T-Coil assistive hearing system.  If you use hearing aids that are T-Coil capable, check with your audiologist about activating the that technology to provide hearing assistance in the BIC Center Theater.  If not, BIC Center provided headsets may be used with the system.  Just ask at the front desk.  If you need other accommodations to attend the event, please check with the BIC Center front desk at least 48 hours in advance so that we are able to determine if we will be able to meet your needs.  The BIC Center Theater is wheel chair accessible.
