Freezin’ for a Reason

We’re taking the Thanksgiving Day polar plunge tradition to a new level by using it to raise funds for these good causes.

The Beaver Island Food Pantry
The  Food Pantry operates from the Gregg Fellowship Center at the Beaver Island Christian Church. It provides assistance to members of the Beaver Island family who are in need. Basic food items and personal care items are distributed once a month. The winter months are the time of greatest need for individuals and families here, so now is an important time to consider making a donation to help out. In addition to supporting a team in the Polar Plunge, you may leave e food donations at the Beaver Island Community Center, the Health Center, Fresh Air, Island Airways, Holy Cross Church and the lobby of the Beaver Island Christian Church. Look for the labeled baskets or crates. Non-perishable, unexpired foods are always appreciated.

The Beaver Island Community Center
The Beaver Island Community Center is a non-profit 501(c)(3) Michigan corporation previously known as The Preservation Association of Beaver Island (or PABI). It is the owner and operator of the Beaver Island Community Center and WVBI, the island’s community radio station. Beaver Island Community Center’s mission is to promote an enduring sense of community, cooperation and pride among the Island’s diverse friends, families and visitors. We envision a welcoming Island where a strong sense of community thrives. Where diverse residents and visitors support an inclusive culture and unique environment. The Beaver Island Community Center does not receive tax funded support. Instead, it relies on revenue from its operations and, mostly, on donations from the community.  This supports a broad range of activities for children, seniors and all ages in between. From music and drama on our stage to year-round exercise opportunities, trivia nights, bingo, senior meals, or a place to hang out with friends up in the Hang Out, the BIC Center and WVBI provide year round service to our Island Community.
